With the guiding principle of “learning from our patients”, the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine actively conducts clinical research alongside basic research that remains closely connected to clinical practice. Among our strengths is intravascular coronary imaging using optical coherence tomography, which we were among the first to introduce into clinical practice in Japan. Our extensive imaging data have led to numerous influential publications shared with the global medical community. We are also conducting large-scale registry studies on heart failure and acute myocardial infarction, with many findings being published in international journals. In the field of basic research, we investigate the molecular mechanisms of cardiomyopathies, heart failure, and cardiorenal syndromes, including studies on neurohumoral factors, which have been highly regarded. In addition, we actively lead multicenter clinical trials, particularly in the areas of heart failure, cardiac catheterization, and arrhythmias, positioning Nara Medical University as a central institution in cardiovascular research.
